The Wolf Point High School Tobacco Prevention Coalition sponsored a CSI: Tobacco Event at the Wolf Point Junior/Senior High School on April 17-18.
Fourteen students designed and created three “crime” scenes demonstrating how tobacco can cause death. Clues were numbered at each scene. Students were invited to solve the crime scenes, noting the cause of death for each display.
Those returning their questionnaires received a granola bar and had their name entered in a drawing for LED flashlights. Winning flashlights were Dorene Hernandez, Shantel Vine, Jeremy Birkoski, Celeste Johnston and Jared Williams.
One “crime” scene depicted death due to lung cancer from 20 years of being exposed to secondhand smoke; another, a house fire due to falling asleep with a lighted cigarette; and the third, an infant death due to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome or possibly asthma.
The students who set up the displays were Liara Grubbs, Mechiah Zilkoski, Hunter Reinhart, Thea Smith, Kymree Flynn, Sarah Hafner, Erin Presser, Katie Page, Alyssa Hoversland, Sierra Hanks, Ky’Anna Broesder, Kailey Williamson, Mecaila Martin and Evan Guldborg.
